06:52 pm - UK question
For those of you in the UK, how much have restaurants paid and how has the evening been worked out?

So, how long have you danced for, what was expected of you, were they in separate sessions (like 20 mins, break then 20 mins) or one slot.
What was expected of you in terms of how many different dances how much audience participation and costuming?

I'm wondering about doing some restaurant dancing to supplement my meagre student funds...

Thank you for your help.

10:43 am - Breakthrough Fusion Competition (San Francisco, CA, USA)
hey rakstars,
we're still recruiting volunteers to help behind the scenes - if you wanna get in for free, volunteer! we need door, backstage, and clean up crew, as well as someone to run sound. email breakthroughfusion[at]gmail.com.
also also, please repost, tell your friends, get the word out. i have more events to contend with this year, and more of our competitors are from out of town, so i'm really relying on my locals to represent!
thanks, and i hope to see you this weekend,
cera & the bfc crew.

**********

The Breakthrough Fusion Competition is THIS WEEKEND!

Come check out the BFC - the first-ever competition of its kind in the bellydance community.

This is a FUSION-ONLY competition - That's right... No traditional Middle Eastern categories. No traditional music. No ATS! This is about innovation and the future of the fusion.

Also a first: our panel of respected judges give critique "American Idol" style... on stage, on mic, immediately after the performer finishes. No waiting to receive your score cards in the mail, no confusion in the audience about what the judges might be thinking.

This year we're expanding the BFC, adding a day of Workshops + a slumber party on Saturday, January 2nd, in addition to the Competition & Show on Sunday, January 3rd.

Judges for the competition: Zoe Jakes (BDSS, the Indigo), Amy Sigil (UNMATA), Cera Byer (Damage Control Dance Theater, Shoebox Studio), and Brad Dosland (Taboo Media)

Dancers for the Gala Show: Rose Harden (formerly of Ultra Gypsy & The Barbary Coast Shakedown), Damage Control Dance Theater, UNMATA, and Kami Liddle (BDSS, Urban Tribal)

Dates:

Workshops: Saturday, January 2nd, 2010 * New!
(Workshops offered by Michelle Reynolds, Cera Byer, & Amy Sigil at Shoebox Studio, www.shoeboxsf.com - registration only open through Wednesday, Dec 30th! http://breakthroughdance.com/workshops/)

11:11 am - Khaleeji
I have I-Tunes gift cards :) and am looking for some good hardcore folky Khaleeji songs. Any suggestions? Any suggestions for youtube vids, dancers/teachers, or research articles as well?

Thanks!

Cross posted to "bellydancers", "bellydancing", "folkloricdance", and my journal.

08:39 pm - BDSS --- Whut?
I just got an email supposedly from from bdsslist@milescopeland.biz .
It has the subject line Bellydance In Print, and then links to articles which are apparently from ANDmagazine:

Bellydance Fashion
I ran Iran and then I Ran
Revenge of the Recessionistas
Spending and Saving II
Bad Rap for Great Dress
The Climate Lie
Ga Ga for Lady Gaga
101 Reasons Not to Join (the military)
Health Care is Coming
Dressing to Flatter Your Figure
The New Plantation (in support of slaves and torture)

Anyone else get this?  Is this Mile's new project or is the BDSS machine becoming a mailing list farm?

I just checked it out on Google, and my browser can't vouch for the sites found under "and magazine".
